Sunday musings…

I just have to ask. . do you really believe PP is selling baby parts? I can’t wrap my head around the stuff I’m seeing all over FB. Without getting into a moral discussion of abortion (not in favor) the vast majority are done in the first trimester when the fetus is the size of a kidney bean. This heavily edited “investigation” is all designed to shut down Planned Parenthood and when that happens the people who will suffer the most are low income women who will have no access to cancer screening, birth control, etc. Don’t the anti abortion folk understand that education and birth control prevent pregnancy which in turn prevents abortion?  The (what tea party?) governor of my state is trying to prevent Maine Care (our version of Medicaid) from paying for birth control at the same time spouting off about Welfare Reform.   This shit is going to give me an aneurysm and who’s going to clean that up?   Again.. not against Welfare Reform.. I know there is a lot of room for improvement ….but not paying for birth control for the very population we want to see off Welfare?   Because God knows a handful of unwanted pregnancies is all the encouragement a low income family needs to throw off the shackles of government hand out and head out into the world of low paying jobs and expensive daycare.  I hate to point fingers at one political party in particular.. but really GOP?  Seriously?

And one more thing  as long as I’m at it.. why can’t I be sad about Cecil without being accused of not caring about babies?  To people that sit around all day waiting for someone to take up a cause so they can immediately compare it to abortion and proof! that we are all going to hell in a handbasket because we dared express sorrow over the douchebaggery of some wealthy asshole with nothing better to do than kill innocent animals… maybe you should spend the time you devote to making up stories like “Liberal Democrats want to pass a law that babies can be killed up to age 4” doing some volunteer work.  Might I suggest working with young unwed mothers with no access to healthcare and birth control, abused children or animals… and leave the rhetoric to someone with two brain cells to rub together? Stepping off my soapbox now and enjoying this beautiful day. Hope you all do, too.  Soapbox

Yes I do believe pp is selling body parts. I was equally mortified by the death of Cecil in such an inhumane way as I was by the casual inhumanity from pp. Both are despicable. I don’t happen to think only the gop are mortified by pp. I am middle of the road politically and vote both parties. This is not political for me. Just grossly inhumane.

My comment about the GOP was more about not wanting to pay for birth control for the poorest segment of society as part of their health care because that is what is happening in my state. However, nationally, the GOP is more interested in defunding PP and keeping scores of women from necessary cancer screenings and birth control than any Democrat regardless of how they may personally feel about abortion. I think we will find out the selling of “body parts” is a gross exaggeration if not outright lie.

I don’t understand why if this is not true PP hasn’t proven it ti be false. The fact that they were appalled themselves at the first video of the woman so casually speaking of this over lunch speaks to me if the validity. I’m sure headquarters spoke to this employee before extending their displeasure to the public.

I really never thought of political parties when th pp story came out. My mind went to the women who have had abortions and how hearing people so so callously speaking of how to remove the babies in pieces as not to damage the salvageable parts must add deeply to any any guilt they are already burdened with. My heart hurts for them. 😦

I imagine if a woman is having a late term abortion it is for medical reasons. Maybe those mothers consented to the tissue being used for research. It’s awful to think about, but maybe the tissue of those babies can help save the lives of others. If we are talking routine abortion.. what body parts? In the first trimester?

That video was so heavily edited that I can’t really comment on the tone the woman used but medical personnel do talk in a callous, detached way when among their own. I’m sure she had no idea she was talking to actors leading the conversation.

It’s so hard to know what to believe on any topic anymore. The media and politics and social media are all so polarizing. There’s just so much hate and manipulation. When I was young and poor and on my own, I used PP for birth control and examinations. I think they serve a great purpose, to your point, and shutting them down would be a bad thing for the already underserved. I agree there is a huge disconnect on women’s health issues. They don’t want birth control and they don’t want abortions, but they don’t seem to care about how these children will live.
As for Cecil the lion, I had the same thought. People can certainly be outraged by more than one issue!

You said it as best I can. I hate seeing the memes comparing Cecil to PP – they are NOT the same thing, and not comparable.

I don’t voice my political opinions on the interwebs. Mainly because opinions are like assholes – everyone has one, and no one wants to hear it. I don’t believe PP is selling body parts. And honestly, a poor woman who is forced into that situation is already more than likely overwhelmed with her decision – for chrissake does the politcal right need to make that decision any freaking harder?

    Sigh.

I work in medical research. Costs associated with fetal body parts are reimbursed. This is not buying a kidney (which I don’t hear folks complaining about in spite of the fact that some low income folks, particularly in other countries DO sell kidneys). This is the proverbial making lemonade when life gives you lemons

The polio vaccine came from fetal tissue. Anybody want polio back?

You do know that birth control is free now under Obama care right? It would make me feel better if they just did women’s health issues and not abortions. And women with low income restraints can always go to a health clinic for the other issues. In fact, if a health clinic finds a breast lump and the woman is dx with breast cancer there are a lot of grants to fully cover their treatment. PP is not under that umbrella as far as I know. But what do I know? Not a lot! There have been too many things popping up about PP over the years, and I fully believe where there is smoke….oh well, it’s certainly not anything that we can fix because in this instance there are no perfect answers.
